On Monday August 5th, P.W.W.S.D #11 (BoneCreek) started the annual "burnout" of their water distribution system as required by the Kansas Department of Health & Environment (KDHE). During this burnout, BoneCreek will stop feeding ammonia and revert to free chlorine residual for a period of four weeks. The purpose of the burnout is to remove any excess ammonia, bio-films, or nitrification in the water lines. Some customers may notice a difference in taste and odor during this time; but the water is still safe and meets all State and Federal requirements. In order to help remove bio-growth in our water lines, the City of Girard will be flushing the fire hydrants throughout town during this period. BoneCreek will end this burnout period on September 9th.
